Every individual’s identity has personal and social dimensions and the process of identity formation in the constant interaction with environment worth studying. The migration phenomenon also results in the change in migrant’s identity, since he/she experiences a variety of environments and trends and tries to form his/her own identity, based on the target country’s culture. The socio-cultural gap between the source and target countries plays a decisive role in identity crisis. Nothomb has focused consciously on the emergence of this crisis in her works. Her novel, Fear and Trembling (1999), narrating the story of a Belgian girl, who travels to Japan for a while, in search of work. The differences and conflicts between the eastern and western values; inflicts Amélie with identity conflicts and duality. In this research, we explore and analyze the identity crisis in Amélie, the novel’s protagonist, based on Karen Horney's Theory. Horney explores the individuals’ internal conflict, through different factors and classifies them into three categories of needs: compliance, aggression, and detachment. But, what is the relationship between Amélie’s moral characteristics and social behaviors with her identity crisis and how has the writer presented this crisis in her relationship with the other characters in the novel?

Anna Gavalda is a contemporary French author whose works have been translated into multiple languages. The protagonists of her novels are mainly women, and the main theme of her works is structured around the events happening within the family and society. The novels enjoy a clear and vivid writing style. Therefore, readers can understand them without any substantial literary knowledge. Chloé who is the protagonist of Someone I Loved (Gavalda, 2008) is an introvert. Gavalda illustrates the status of women in her society through the image and reflection of Chloé. An understating of the goddess archetype of Chloé—as the heroine of the story—could unearth the causes of her behaviors and attempts in life. This study attempts to examine the goddesses ruling Chloé’s psyche and the dominant types and forms in the society enforcing particular roles and behaviors on the women. The other aim of the research is to advance our understating of how some of Chloé’s behaviors are promoted and some other behaviors are repressed, of what effects the social factors have on Chloé’s behaviors, of whether the changes in goddess archetypes and Chloé’s behaviors are influenced by the collective unconscious mind. Jung’s theories and the goddess archetypes and their influences upon the female characters of the story helped us to uncover what made each character react differently under certain conditions of life. This also offered insights as to how the society and culture contributed to forming and shaping the characters’ fate.

This paper tends to investigate Immorality written by Andre Gide, famous French writer of the 20th century. This research studies imagines of soil element in the Immorality which is seen frequently in reverie of characters in this book. We show how author’s point of view and imagination result in speculations subject to this element, creating images to show internal spiritualities of characters in this fiction. This paper tends to study imagination of the writer through his reveries and created images on soil element. There are some images used in this work subject to the above element and it is evidence on dualistic vision of Gide. This paper studies unconscious tendencies and the reveries appeared frequently in writer’s consciousness. Toward this goal, we use Gaston Bachelard's literary criticism approach. Based on this, literary images on soil element let us recognize speculation of Gide.
