Despite the growing attention to cultural teaching through literary texts, the number of studies highlighting learning culture through short stories is still limited. This study investigated effects of teaching short stories on Iranian English students’ cultural identity reconstruction. Seven source and target stories entailing cultural conceptualizations of faith, love, and justice were taught during a semester. Four undergraduate students of TEFL at Yazd University were selected through purposive sampling. The researchers applied various instruments, including narrative interviews, open-ended questionnaires and diary studies. They collected the data related to participants’ self-images of initial, present, and future phases of learning English. The data were analyzed through qualitative content analysis. The findings identified a three-stage developmental path of cultural identity reconstruction, initiating from being profoundly mesmerized by a foreign culture, followed by appreciating national identity. In the third stage, they experienced a stage of respect for intercultural diversities and had a tendency for active membership in international communities. The participants demonstrated a strong tendency to preserve their cultural identity and move toward globalization. The findings supported the flexibility and multiplicity of cultural identities confirming social constructionists’ views. The findings underline the need for fundamental revision of teaching materials for the course Oral Reproduction in order to strengthen the cultural identity of Iranian English learners on their path towards globalization.}, keywords = {Learner identity,cultural identity,language investment,identity construction,cultural teaching}, title_fa = {بررسی هویّت فرهنگی یادگیرندگان زبان انگلیسی به‌وسیلۀ داستان‌های کوتاه: مطالعۀ موردی دانشجویان ایرانی رشتۀ انگلیسی}, abstract_fa = {مطالعات فراوانی بر اهمّیّت استفاده از ادبیّات در آموزش ‌زبان و فرهنگ تأکید ‌‌‌کرده‌اند. باوجوداین، تعداد مطالعات متمرکز بر اثرات آموزش زبان به‌وسیلۀ داستان‌های ‌کوتاه بر هویّت یادگیرندگان انگلیسی محدود است. این تحقیق به بررسی نقش آموزش داستان‌های ‌‌‌کوتاه بر شکل‌گیری هویّت فرهنگی دانشجویان زبان انگلیسی در ایران می‌پردازد. هفت داستان ‌کوتاه زبان ‌‌‌‌مادری ترجمه‌شده و خارجی پیرامون مفاهیم فرهنگیِ وفاداری، عدالت و عشق در کلاس آموزش داده شدند. نمونه‌های انتخابی، هدفمند، چهار دانشجوی کارشناسی سال سوم رشتۀ انگلیسی دانشگاه یزد بودند. هویّت‌‌سازی این‌ نمونه‌‌های انتخابی از طریق مصاحبه‌‌‌های روایی، پرسشنامه‌های باز و مطالعۀ خاطرات مورد بررسی قرار گرفتند. پژوهشگران داده‌های مربوط به خودانگار‌ۀ گذشته، حال و آیندۀ یادگیرند‌گان را جمع‌‌‌آوری و به‌وسیلۀ تحلیل محتوای کیفی تجزیه‌وتحلیل کردند. از نظر تغییرات هویّت فرهنگی در این مطالعه می‌توان مسیر مشخصی را ثبت کرد که از احساس بیگانگی فرهنگی و برتربینی فرهنگ خارجی شروع و به مرحلۀ تکریم هویّت ملّی، پاسداشت تنوّع بین‌فرهنگی و تمایل به عضویّت کارآمد در جوامع بین‌المللی می‌رسد. هم‌زمان با حرکت به‌سوی جهانی‌شدن، شرکت‌کنندگان تمایل به حفظ هویّت فرهنگی خود نیز نشان دادند. یافته‌‌‌ها همچنین صحّت نظریّات ساختگرایی اجتماعی در مورد پویایی و چند‌گانگی هویّت را تأیید کردند. یافته‌های این تحقیق بر ضرورت تجدیدنظر هوشمندانۀ محتوای آموزشی استفاده‌شده در تدریس درس بیان شفاهی، در راستای تحکیم هویّت فرهنگی یادگیرندگان در مسیر متعارف جهانی‌شدن تأکید می‌کند.}, keywords_fa = {هویّت یادگیرنده,هویّت فرهنگی,سرمایه‌گذاری زبانی,هویّت‌سازی,آموزش فرهنگی}, url = {https://jlts.um.ac.ir/article_39592.html}, eprint = {https://jlts.um.ac.ir/article_39592_5dc4ed81a3f5ebb1304ad2735286d2cc.pdf} }
